Abstract
PURPOSE:A mold for continuous casting which consists in forming an Ni-Al intermediate layer and a BN-contg. heat-resistant layer of respectively predetermined thicknesses on the inside surface of the casting hollow part of a mold made of copper or copper alloy and which has considerably prolonged mold life as compared to usual molds. CONSTITUTION:An Ni-Al intermediate layer 2 of 150-500mu thicknesses is formed on the inside surface of the casting hollow part of a mold body 1 made of copper or copper alloy, and further a BN-contg. heat-resistant layer 3 of 100-300mu thickness is formed on this intermediate layer 2 surface. Said intermediate layer 2 is formed by a melt-spraying method or the like using a commercial melt-spraying material compounded usually with Ni and Al. In this case, the compounding composition comprising 4-8wt% Al and the balance Ni is preferable. Also, the heat resistant layer 3 is formed by a melt-spraying method or the like using a commercial melt-spraying material similarly contg. BN. The BN contg. ratio of this case is preferably 5-10wt%, and BN is added as, for example, an alloy component, to Ni, Cr, Fe, Al, etc.
