In a method of making composite castings, e.g. cylinders, engine blocks, brake drums, the indentations or recesses in the roughened surface of a first metal piece are filled with a material having a lower melting point than the metal which is subsequently pressure cast-on. If the metal to be cast-on is an aluminium alloy, the recesses are filled with a Pb-Sn-Zn alloy.
