1307562 Making plates; continuously casting; working at specified temperatures VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISENUND STAHWERKE AG 8 May 1970 [9 May 1969] 22431/70 Headings B3A B3F and B3V In a method of making plates from slabs cut from a continuously cast bar, the bar is continuously cast and the solidified bar is reduced in a one-step rolling treatment prior to severing into slabs and as soon as its marginal zone has reached a temperature between 800‹ and 1000‹ C. while its core zone is still at a higher temperature. The difference in temperatures is preferably 100‹ C. This ensures that the core zone is fully reduced when the bar has been severed into plates and rolled to its final thickness. The overall reduction in the one-step treatment is between 7 and 20% with the core zone being given a 1À3 to 2À5 fold reduction, the core zone is regarded as being from <SP>1</SP>/5 to <SP>1</SP>/3 of the total bar cross-section.
