Abstract

PURPOSE:To save energy less and to improve productivity in direct rolling of steel materials by changing the direction of the unit ingot of high temp. out from a continuous casting machine and biting the same into a rolling mill from its trailing end part. CONSTITUTION:The unit ingot of high temp. out from a continuous casting installation A and cut with a gas cutter 6 is changed of direction with a turntable device 10, and its trailing end which is put forward by this is bitten into a roughing mill 16. After this direction changing, it is passed through a reheating furnace 14 and a conditioning device 15, if necessary. The turntable 10 accepts slabs or the like from a blooming stage 12 in accordance with schedules. The ingot out from the mill 16 is rolled to a strip through a finishing mill 17, and is coiled on a coiler 18. By this method, the shapes in the longitudinal and broadside directions of the strip are improved.
