Abstract

869,081. Casting composite articles. PERFECT CIRCLE CORPORATION. Sept. 15, 1959 [Nov. 26, 1958], No. 31379/59. Class 83 (1). A composite structure comprises two parts of different metals, one of said parts having a surface provided with a multitude of small spines and projections randomly arranged on the entire surface, the other part being formed on said surface and overlying said spines and projections and filling the spaces therebetween, whereby said parts are intimately interlocked. An aluminium brake drum body 11 is cast on to a cast-iron liner 12 which was centrifugally cast in the manner described in Specification 722,459, which is referred to, so as to be provided on its outer surface with random spines and projections. The line may be preheated to 300-400‹ F. and prestressed by expanding it prior to casting so that on cooling the casting will be relatively free of stresses. An aluminium cylinder block may be cast around cast-iron liners.
