Abstract

881,170. Visible signalling apparatus. OLDHAM & SON Ltd., and MORTON, H. Oct. 28, 1959 [Dec. 3, 1958], No. 39041/58. Class 118. In a battery-operated signalling lamp which is capable of producing a signal of one only of three colours at a time, without the use of shutters or screens, there are three pairs of coloured bulbs connected to a battery through switches interconnected in such a way that current can pass through only one pair at a time. The lamp has an open-ended body 1 (Fig. 1) closed at the front by a transparent element 2 e.g. glass, and at the back by concave reflector 4 spaced by resilient pads 7 from the back piece 5. Sockets for white, red and green bulbs 13, 14, 15 respectively (Fig. 3) are arranged in diametrically opposite pairs on a conductive ring mounting 16 centralized on the axis of the mirror, by channel element 17 (containing the currentcarrying wires) connected to conducting bridge 20, and elements 18, 19 connected to the body 1. The micro switches 23, 24, operated by two-way actuator 33 swivelling about a horizontal pivot on handle 8 and the main on-off switch 22, are secured to the bridge 20. The micro-switches 23, 24 are spring-urged into the condition shown in Fig. 4, wherein closure of main switch 22 lights the white bulbs 13; by moving actuator 33 in one direction, thus operating switch 23, only the red bulbs 14 light up and by moving actuator 33 in the opposite direction, thus operating switch 24, only the green bulbs 15 light up. The bulbs are arranged in parallel to facilitate signalling in case one bulb fails. The battery may be carried in a holder at the back of the lamp and switches 23, 24 may be of the on-off type.
