Abstract

537,074. Cycle lamps. CORDNER, J. Nov. 30, 1939, No. 31139. [Classes 75 (iii) and 75 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVIII] Cycle lamps emitting light to front and rear and comprising battery casings 1 attached to the front forks and to lamp casings 2 are combined in a system, illuminated by a cycledriven dynamo, when the cycle is in motion and by battery when stationary. Generally, each front fork carries a lamp and the lamp bulbs are connected with the dynamo in parallel. A head lamp may be inincluded in the circuit. The lamp 2 is open at both ends so that the battery bulb 3 and the dynamo bulb 4 can illuminate both front and rear. A support 12 fixed to the casing 1 receives a lamp bracket 13. The rear aperture is glazed with red glass 7. The bulb contacts with a battery terminal and the circuit is completed by a screw switch 8. The dynamo is connected to the bulb 4 by a lead 4a. A switch for lighting one bulb from the battery or the dynamo may be provided on the handle-bars. In another form the casing 2 is connected by a pivoted arm, which may be fixed in position, to the casing 1. Bowden cable control may be used to turn the arm and make turning signals with the lamp. In another form the battery case is mounted on top of the lamp.
