Abstract

880,890. Cutting apparatus. WINKLER, R., and DUNNEBIER, K. Sept. 15, 1959 [Feb. 5, 1958], No. 31357/59. Class 31 (1). [Also in Groups XVI and XVII] Relates to window envelope making machines (see Group XVII) and comprises a device wherein a carrier can be moved to feed in a new web of window making material and wherein the old web is automatically severed. A knife 42 projects from a piston 41 in a tube 40 which is slotted longitudinally, to allow the knife to project, and is inoperative when the piston is held at the end of the tube, against the action of a spring 44 therein, by a latch which comprises a member 47 which enters a lateral slot 46 in the piston through a registering slot in the wall of the tube. The rotation of a hand lever 37 causes a pin 49 on a bracket 36 to move a bar 48 in a direction to turn the latch 47 about a pivot 47<SP>1</SP> so that it leaves the registering slots and releases the piston 41 and knife 42. The old web is led across the slot in the tube and is therefore severed when the spring 44 causes the knife to traverse the slot.
