Abstract

1,028,541. Feeding webs. UNITED ELASTIC CORPORATION. Feb. 18, 1963 [March 20, 1962], No. 6474/63. Heading B6B. [Also in Division G1] Ribbon 1 which may pass between guiding rolls on to drums and backwind on to spools or cartons is tested by a device for detecting a thick portion on the ribbon 1 and comprises jaws 2, 3 connected by elongated members 11 to the screw-thread of a micrometer 4. Members 11 slide in a slot between two members 12. The jaws are set to a distance only slightly greater than the desired thickness of the ribbon 1, so that a thick portion of ribbon passing between the jaws 2, 3 will cause the device to pivot as shown by arrow 13 about the point at which it is fixed to a winding machine 6. This causes a lever 7 to move and release the plunger 9 of a microswitch 10. Opening of the switch stops the winding machine and an operator can remove the faulty portion of ribbon.
