Abstract
1,172,527. Feeding webs. WOLSEY Ltd. 6 March, 1967 [14 April, 1966], No. 16342/66. Heading B8R. A reciprocating gripper feed mechanism 15, for introducing the leading end of a web 21 into a machine, is mounted on a block 16, slidably movable relative to a frame 12 against the bias of a spring 22. The grippers 17 and 18 engage the web 21 through top and bottom slots 19 in a rectangular tube 13 attached to the frame 12. When the leading end of the web is to be advanced into the machine, the frame 12 is moved along guide rods 11, thereby advancing the tube 13 through open cutters 31, 32, up to the entrance of the machine, e.g. a sewing machine. Thereafter, the reciprocating grippers 15 advance the web through the tube 13 and into the machine which takes over the feed. When the frame 12 returns to its starting position, it operates either a micro-switch 42 or a valve (not illustrated), which operates a solenoid 39 or a pneumatic cylinder (not illustrated) to pivot the cutter blade 32 to sever the web.
