Abstract

1382725 Feeding webs KAYSOR-ROTH CORP 28 March 1972 [28 July 1971] 14517/72 Heading B8R The leading end of a web 28, cut from a preceding length of web by a cutting means 114 carried by a web guide means 32, 36, is fed to a work station, e.g. a sewing machine 20, by a reciprocatable feed means 56 comprising a shiftable member 54 guided by said guide means and adapted to extend beneath the web and a pivotal gripping member connected to the shiftable member and adapted to be located above the web and to pivot downwardly to grip the web during advance of the feed means and upwardly out of contact with the web during retraction of the feed means. The web is fed between a horizontal element 34 having side walls 50, and a longitudinally extending rod 46, and then via a guide strip 38 and ultimately between the strip 38 and a top wall (94), Fig. 6 (not shown), of a guide assembly 36 and between the side walls thereof, past the cutting means 114 to the work station. The shiftable member 54 has bottom and side walls and is slidable along the element 34, the gripping member 64 being pivotably secured to these side walls and connected to an air cylinder 82, manual actuation of which grips the web between the member 64 and bottom wall of member 54 and advances the web. The cutting means includes a rectangular plate 144 having an upper aperture provided with a bottom blade (160), Fig. 8 (not shown), and through which the web is fed. A piston (124) mounted in the frame, is slidable within an air cylinder, manual actuation of which raises the frame 144 and cuts the web. Air jets from apertures in the assembly 36 behind and ahead of the cutting means may be directed in the direction of web advance.
