Abstract
1,177,049. Sewing machines. DURKOPPWERKE G.m.b.H. 19 Sept., 1968 [26 Sept., 1967], No. 44485/68. Heading D1G. A machine for sewing darts comprises a work-support surface, a movable bar engageable with said surface for feeding work therealong, a folding bar movable over said surface and under the raised feeding bar, and a bar provided with spikes for holding the work at the rear of the feeding bar and for releasing the work on retraction of the folding bar and lowering of the feeding bar. A sewing machine 3, mounted on a table top 2, is provided with an elongated workfeeding bar 4 having a roughened work-engaging under surface and being formed in its upper surface with a longitudinal groove 4<SP>1</SP> engaged by a fixed guide pin 11 adjacent the stitching point. Bar 4 is connected to a slide 5 movable on a guide rail 7 by means of gearing 6. Bar 4 is raised and lowered by an air motor 8 via a bell crank lever 9. A work-folding bar 13 extends from a work-supporting plate 12 carried by rods 12<SP>1</SP> slidable in a structure mounted under table top 2 for pivotal movement co-axial with the sewing machine needle by means of a handle 12<SP>11</SP> movable over a scale 16 for varying the angular position of bar 13 relative to the feeding bar 4. An air motor coupled to rods 12<SP>1</SP> serves to move bar 13 over table top 2 and under the raised feeding bar 4. Work located on plate 12 by a template 38 held in position by magnets 39 hangs over the edge of bar 13 and is folded upon movement of the latter. Bar 13 first passes under an angle bar 17, carried by a structure 18, 20 and lowered by an air motor 21 against the bias of springs 19 to a position in which a resilient blade carried by bar17 engages the work on bar 13. When the latter is fully advanced, a bar 23 is lowered by an air motor 25 against the bias of springs 24, whereby the work is held in position by spikes 22 which are carried by bar 23 and which pass through notches 13<SP>1</SP> formed in bar 13. A presser foot (27), pivoted to bar 4 adjacent the stitching point, is simultaneously lowered by an air motor 28. Bar 13 then retracts, bar 4 is lowered, bars 17 and 23 are raised and finally, before stitching commences, the work still resting on plate 12 is removed therefrom by the downward movement of a rod 37 carried by a bell crank lever 35 actuated by an air motor 36. A strip (33) which may be incorporated in the seam is led to the stitching point by a guide tube (31) extending downwardly from the undersurface of the throat plate, the strip being severed at the end of the operation by a knife (34). The work may be trimmed in the line of feed by a knife (29).
