Abstract

1,192,922. Cutting tubes &c. transversely. MIDLAND INDUSTRIES Ltd. 16 Nov., 1967 [18 Aug., 1966], No. 36970/66. Heading B4B. A cutting-off machine for cutting bar rod or tube stock 10 of plastics material into cut pieces 79 comprises tubular guide means 46 for the stock, a cutter 30 movable across the guide means and a stop 44 movable into an operative position in the path of the stock so that the stock is stationary during the cutting operation. It is movable out of the path of advance of the stock 10 to enable a cut piece to be ejected. The cutter is secured to an arm 29 mounted on a rotatable shaft 26 on which is also mounted a cam 36 which moves the stop in synchronism with the cutter. The arm 29 is extended on the other side of the shaft so as to be balanced. The guide means has a slot 77 through which the cutter can pass. The guide means comprises a part 56 on which the stop is supported and a cutter guide part 54 the two parts being relatively adjustable and the cam and cutter also being relatively adjustable, to cut pieces of stock of different lengths. The stop may commence moving to its stop position before the cut portion is ejected due to the part 56 including an enlarged portion 62 whereby the stop may move the cut piece 79 transversely in the portion 62 before it is ejected.
