Abstract
951,561. Stripping bobbins. H.SLATER & SON (ENGINEERS) Ltd. May 7, 1962 [Feb. 7, 1961], No.4475/61. Heading D1F. A machine for stripping pirns and like tubes comprises a carrier 1, means for reciprocating the carrier lengthwise, supports 12,14 on the carrier to engage the ends of a tube 17 with the axis of the tube parallel to the direction of movement of the carrier, a cutter disc spindle 26 with its axis at right angles to that direction of movement to vary a cutter disc 27 in a flow that includes the axis of the tube, and means to move the spindle towards and away from the axis of the tube to enable the disc to penetrate the layer of thread on the tube as the carrier moves in one direction, and to be clear of the tube when it moves in the other direction. By depressing a button, a lever 19, rotatable between stops 28 and on which is mounted the disc 26 and a motor and belt arrangement for rotating the disc, is lowered by a cylinder 21, and as the carriage 1,on which is pivoted an interchangeable jig 10, adjustable by screws 11 so that the axis of the tube 17 is horizontal is caused to move to the left to the position shown in Fig.1 the tube is stripped. When the carrier reaches this position the stripped tube is replaced by another tube and the carriage actuates a reversing valve,to cause return movement of the lever 19 and carriage 1. A guard (not shown) is provided for the disc 27. Alternatively two cutting discs 36 (Fig. 5 not shown) one on each side of the tube may be used. If part or whole of the tube is tapered, a template mounted on the carriage is then arranged to vary the spacing of the discs. The cutting disc or discs may be of metal, abrasive or plastic (preferably reinforced).
