Abstract
1,142,786. Yarn-entraining device. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 11 July, 1966 [22 July, 1965], No. 31247/65. Heading DID and D1F. A device for entraining a yarn or filament away from the position where it is being processed, severing an unwanted portion and passing it to a waste disposal system, while maintaining the tension in the rest of the yarn, is such that when it is brought near the material in lengthwise movement, a part of the material is acted upon by at least one stream of fluid so that the material suddenly becomes fully enclosed within a cavity communicating with a disposal pipe, the material within the cavity simultaneously becoming acted upon by at least one stream of fluid so as to apply to the material a force in the direction away from the feed source of the material, the material being simultaneously severed by means attached to the device, and entrained and directed down the disposal pipe. As shown, a tube 6 surrounded by a jacket 5 has a narrow slot 10 at its front. Along the length of the slot near its edges are provided inwardly and downwardly directed apertures communicating through the jacket with pressure-air admitted through a pipe 9. At the lower end of the slot are cutting blades 12, 13 and at the end of the tube, a disposal device 7. The device is brought near the material with the slot either parallel to it or at an angle to it. In the latter case, part of the yarn is first entrained in the top of the slot: the rest of the yarn follows when the device is pivoted about its top to bring the slot parallel to the material. To ensure a clean cut and avoid damaging the yarn, a check device is provided to impede the movement of the yarn towards the cutter, until an appropriate force acts on the yarn near the cutter.
