Abstract

545,335. Cutting extruded clay into lengths. BESWICK, C. F., SMITH, S., and SMITH, H. Jan. 31, 1941, No. 1262. [Class 87 (ii)] The clay stream passes between radiallymoving blades L secured to carriers K guided in slots in a ring A. The carriers have pins M which are received in arcuate inclined slots H in a second. ring F, so that oscillation of the ring F by means of a handle J moves the blades in and out. In operation, the clay stream is allowed to pass between the (open) blades L, and towards the end O<SP>1</SP> of a beam O which is pivoted between brackets E extending from the ring A, its rear limb O<SP>11</SP> being connected by a link P and pin N to a carrier K<SP>1</SP>. When the stream touches the end O<SP>1</SP> it is severed by oscillation of the handle J, the resultant inward movement of the carrier K<SP>1</SP> raising the end O<SP>1</SP> so that the cut length can be removed. By using a shorter or longer beam the length of the severed material may be varied. The ring A has bearings D which slide upon rods secured to the front of the extrusion press.
