Abstract

880,701. Two-part couplings. ETABLISSEMENTS DAREY, BICKFORD, SMITH & CIE SOC. ANON. FRANCHISE. Dec. 31, 1957 [Jan. 4, 1957], No. 40476/57. Class 38 (1). A two-part connector for coupling electric cables consists of insulating coupling members moulded on to the ends of the cables with the ends of the conductors bared and bent back in a U-shape, the coupling members engaging one with the other or fitting into a common sleeve to hold the conductor ends in contact. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 3, one member A, moulded on to one conductor fits tightly into a corresponding aperture in the member B, moulded on to the other conductor. To hold the members A, B together faces 10 on member A are slightly domed, faces 11 on B being shaped to fit. In each co-operating member of the arrangement in Figs. 4 and 5, the bare ends of conductors 4, 4<SP>1</SP> are bent to fit into grooves 7, 7<SP>1</SP> in the meeting faces of the members, to make electrical contact when the members are fitted into each other. In another embodiment (Fig. 7) the two moulded coupling members are identical except that the member D shown has a label, the bare conductors 4 being bent to lie along a ledge 15 which is slightly less deep than the thickness of the conductor. In another type of arrangement the coupling members consist of a cylindrical member E and a tubular member F which fit one into the other (Figs. 10 and 11) or have half cylindrical portions I, I<SP>1</SP> (Fig. 18) which fit face to face and are enclosed by a tube. In each of these embodiments the bare conductor ends are folded back to lie in grooves and moisture excluding flanges 18, 26, 26<SP>1</SP> as well as co-operating projections and hollows 19, 20 are provided. In the Fig. 18 embodiment the cylindrical ends of the coupling members adjacent flanges 26, 26<SP>1</SP> are slightly conical and while the best contact is made with coupling of this type by forcing them fully home in tube J adequate contact to short circuit, e.g. a detonator connected to leads 3, 3<SP>1</SP> can be made without pushing the coupling members fully into the tube.
