Abstract

878,696. Cathode ray tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 14, 1958 [May 17, 1957], No. 15485/58. Class 39(1). [Also in Groups XXIII and XXXVI] In a method of manufacturing a double sided mosaic plate having an electric conductivity in the direction of its thickness considerably greater than that in a direction perpendicular to its thickness, a plate of glass 1 containing one or more metallic oxides, for example crystal glass containing lead oxide, is placed between plain electrodes 2, 3 each having a number of projections 4 in contact with the glass. Alternatively one of the electrodes may have no projection and may be in contact with the plate 1 throughout its surface. The electrodes are connected to a voltage source 5 and the assembly heated in an oven (not shown) until the glass has considerable conductivity. The potential 5 is applied for a sufficient length of time for the metal oxides in the glass to be reduced to the corresponding metals along line opposite the projection. The plate may serve as a wall for a vacuum envelope.
