Abstract

The glass of the screen of a television camera tube (see Division H1) contains 10 to 25% by weight of Ti2O3, NbO2, or V2O3, together with BaO, CaO, Al2O3, and SiO2, but contains substantially no alkali oxide. The ingredients are melted in a carbon, molybdenum, or nickel crucible, in a reducing atmosphere e.g. forming gas. The screen may be supported on a tantalum or titanium ring by a glaze composed of the oxides of magnesium, barium, boron, aluminium, and silicon.
