Abstract

1,260,933. Glass ceramic. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 8 April, 1969 [10 April, 1968], No. 17894/69 Heading C1M. A. glass ceramic material is obtained from a glass, which glass was obtained from a batch of composition (in weight per cent) CaO 24-50; Al 2 O 3 35-57À5; MgO. 0-12; BaO 0-16; Y 2 O 3 0-10; B 2 O 3 0-9; ZrO 2 0-17À5; Li 2 O 0-3; where (B 2 O 3 +ZrO 2 +Li 2 O) is 3-20; by heating the glass for 30-120 minutes at 700- 900‹ C., for 0-120 minutes at 900-1000‹ C., and then for 60-360 minutes at 1000-1200‹ C. The glass ceramicis resistant, to the action of sodium vapour; and may be used as an envelope for discharge lamps. Alternatively it may be used as a sealing element 7 for sealing a lead-in 6 (of, e.g. Mo) to an envelope 1 of dense sintered polycrystallinealumina of at least 99À5% purity. The devitrification may be carried out after sealing with the glass. Specification 1,172,794 is referred to.
