Abstract

1374063 Glass for sealing to metal and ceramic PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 16 Feb 1973 [21 Feb 1972] 7729/73 Heading C1M [Also in Division H1] In a high-pressure gas discharge lamp comprising a discharge vessel 1 which consists mainly of aluminium oxide and a gas filling comprising at least one halide, an electrode 7 located within the discharge vessel is secured to a current lead-through member 5 which is sealed in a vacuum-tight manner to the discharge vessel with the aid of a melting glass 6 which consists of 20 to 60% by weight of SiO2, 0 to 40% Al2O3, 20 to 80% MnO and optionally up to a total of 10% by weight of one or more of the oxides Na2O, BaO, CaO, FeO, ZnO and B2O3, the SiO2 content being larger than the Al2O3 content. A preferred composition includes 40 to 55% SiO2, 10 to 40% Al2O3, and 20 to 40% MnO, e.g. 54% SiO2, 23% Al2O3 and 23% MnO.
