Abstract
1280938 Electrode materials SIEMENS AG 12 Oct 1970 [13 Oct 1969] 48284/70 Heading H1D At least one of the electrodes 2, 3 of a gasdischarge surge arrester has a layer 4 of a pasty mixture containing an alkali metal halide and titanium hydride. The layer may also contain magnesium oxide. The arrester preferably contains a filling of rare gas. Electrodes 3 of a Ni-Fe or Ni-Fe-Co alloy are sealed to a tubular insulator 1 of glass or ceramic. The constituents of the layers 4 may be in powder form containing between 25 and 95% by weight of alkali metal halide of grain size 0À2 to 20 Á, between 5 and 75% titanium hydride of grain size 0À2 to 20 Á, and between 0 and 50% magnesium oxide of grain size 0À2 to 1 Á. Preferred compositions are 75% potassium chloride or iodide, and 25% titanium hydride, or 45% potassium bromide or iodide of grain size 1 to 10 Á, 5% titanium hydride of grain size 1 to 10 Á, and 50% magnesium oxide of grain size less than 1 Á.
