Abstract

1282669 Cold-cathode tubes; cathode materials SIEMENS AG 2 Oct 1970 [3 Oct 1969] 46904/70 Heading H1D [Also in Division C7] At least one of the electrodes 2, 3 of a gas discharge surge voltage arrester is provided on its face adjacent the other electrode with a layer 4 consisting of an alloy of Ba and Al containing between 90 and 30% by weight of Ba and between 10 and 70% by weight of Al, with 50% Ba and 50% Al preferred. The arrester is formed by sealing frusto-conical electrodes 2, 3 of Ni-Fe or Ni-Fe-Co alloy to a tubular insulator 1 of glass or ceramic, and is filled with a rare gas. The Ba-Al alloy is purified by heating the arrestor to a temperature of 700‹ to 900‹ C. during manufacture.
