Abstract
803,371. Removing electrically conducting films electrolytically. LIBBEY - OWENS - FORD GLASS CO. Sept. 3, 1956 [Sept. 7, 1955], No. 26801/56. Class 41. A method of removing an electrically conducting metal oxide film, e.g. a transparent film 12 of tin oxide, from glass or ceramic material 10, comprises coating the film 12 with an organic liquid 13, e.g. glycerine or light oil, and establishing a voltage sufficient to produce an arc through the liquid 13, between an electrode 14, e.g. a graphite pencil, and the film 12 and contacting the liquid coating 13 with the electrode 14. Electrical connection, positive or negative, to the film 12 may be made through a fired-on bus-bar 11, and A.C. may be employed. Voltages of 25 to 100 are mentioned. The oxide is thought to be reduced by hydrogen produced by passage of electricity through the organic liquid.
