Abstract
878,358. Gas burners. SUGG & CO. Ltd., WILLIAM. July 4, 1960 [July 3, 1959], No. 23017/59. Classes 75(1) and 75(3). In a gas fire having a main burner and a pilot burner having two jets at right angles to each other, a flash tube is provided for igniting the pilot burner and the gas supply is controlled by a manually operated valve 8 having an "off" position, a "pilot" position and an "on" position and constructed so that it cannot be moved from the "off" to the "on" position without first being moved to the "pilot" position. In the "pilot" position gas is supplied to the pilot burner and a small quantity of gas passes to the main burner. The valve 8 comprises a rotary member 20 having gas channels co-operating with outlet ports leading to the pilot and main burners. The rotary member 20 is rotated by a niting key 22 which has bosses adapted to slide in slots 24 in the rotary member and which is secured to an operating spindle 26 extending from a knob located on the top of the casing of the fire. The niting key 22 is biased upwardly by a spring and has a lug 29 adapted to engage in a stepped opening 30 in a gland plate 31 secured to the valve housing, the steps in the opening 30 defining the "off", "pilot" and "on" positions of the valve. A tongue 37 on the gland plate 31 ensures that the lug 29 occupies the "pilot" position before it can enter the "on" position. In the "on" position the rotary member can be turned to vary the supply to the main burner.
