Abstract

972,887. Valves. HORSTMANN GEAR CO. Ltd., and THOMAS POTTERTON Ltd. July 10, 1963 [July 20, 1962], No. 28079/62. Heading F2V. [Also in Division F4] In a gas control valve for use between a main burner system and a source of gas supply, the depression of an operating button 19 supplies gas to a pilot burner P and, simultaneously and temporarily, until extinguished upon release of the button 19 as the feed to the main burner system is opened, establishes a flame at an igniting jet L to ignite the pilot burner P which maintains, via thermally responsive means, the gas supply to itself and the main burner system. Closure 16, carrying resilient face 17 and slidable upon button stem 18, is resiliently seated by spring 21 against seat 8, as button 19 is depressed, to close the outlet 5 to the main burner whilst, simultaneously, the stem terminal nut 18 contacts the spring-seated, resiliently faced inlet valve 10 to permit gas flow from the inlet 4 to the pilot burner P and, as the button 19 contacts ignition control knob 30 to unseat ball 27, via passage 32 to ignition jet L. Electrical contacts 33 are made upon depression of the ignition control knob 30 to ignite the jet L from filaments 34. When the pilot P is established thermocouple 35 is heated and energizes magnet 13 to hold the inlet valve 10 open, via ferrous disc 12, as the button 19 is released to unseat closure 16 to permit gas flow to the main burner and allow ball 27 to seal and contacts 33 to break to extinguish the igniting jet L.
