Abstract

936,752. Gas burners. GAS COUNCIL. Feb. 6, 1962 [Feb. 6, 1961], No. 4415/61. Classes 75 (1) and 75 (3). A gas burner comprises a burner head having two separate passages communicating with burner openings 36, 40 disposed around a burner head and valve means 13, 14 for controlling the supply of aerated gas to one passage and of non-aerated gas for low rate consumption to the other passage. The burner head comprises three main parts 28, 29, 30. Either the port 29, Fig. 1, or the port 28, Figs. 5 to 7, not shown, has projections 38 so that aerated gas supplied through a mixing pipe 22 can pass between the projections 38 into a main burner opening 40. Gas entering the supply pipe 17 enters an annular space 35, and passes between the projections 33 of the part 29 providing a simmer flame at the circumferential groove 36. The main gas supply is permanently connected through a recess 50 with large and small inlet ports 51, 52. The small inlet port 52 is connected through an arcuate groove 47 with a port 18 leading to the non-aerated gas supply pipe 17. The large inlet port 51 is simultaneously connected through a short arcuate groove 46 and plug passages 45, 44 with an injector 16 opening into the mixing pipe 22. If the valve plug is turned anticlockwise the supply to the port 18 is eventually cut-off and the supply to the injector increased. Clockwise rotation of the plug cuts off the supply to the injector and eventually that to the pipe 17 also. A flash - back tube 53 has one end adjacent to the space 40 and the other to a continuously burning micro-jet, such that gas entering the tube is ignited by the micro-jet and consequently ignites the burner. In a modification aerated gas issues from a passage in the burner part 29 into the adjacent flash-back tube. In another arrangement a cross-lighting jet supplied from the pipe 17 is situated between the groove 36 and the end of the flash-back tube remote from the micro-jet 54. The micro-jet may be replaced by an electrical igniter rendered operative by the turning on of the gas valve 13, 14.
