Abstract
1,232,557. Igniters for gas burners. JOH. VAILLANT K.G. 25 Feb., 1970 [2 April, 1969], No. 9018/70. Headings F4F and F4T. An igniter for multi-unit gas burners comprises an igniter tube which extends transversely to all the burner units, and which has an ignition aperture near each burner unit, an ignition electrode at one end of the tube, and an electronic flame detector at the other end. Figs. 1 and 2 show an appliance comprising a number of Bunsen burners 1, and having an igniter tube 5 with ignition apertures 5<SP>1</SP>. When a solenoid valve 7 is opened, gas flows into the igniter tube 5 by an ignition line 8, and is ignited by an igniter electrode 14 at the apertures 5<SP>1</SP> adjacent to the electrode. The "strip" of flame flows along the igniter tube to a detector electrode 15 of an electronic flame detector, which opens the solenoid valve 10 to allow gas to flow into the main burner units 1. The gas-air mixture is ignited at the ends 1<SP>1</SP> of the burners nearest to the igniter tube. Should the "strip" of flame in the igniter tube fail to reach the detector electrode 15, the gas supply through valve 7 is interrupted. Use of a similar igniter tube with a non-atmospheric lattice type burner is also described (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) in which the igniter tube may extend along the distribution tube (16) of the burner units (17).
