Abstract

877,427. Brushes. OSBORN MANUFACTURING CO. Jan. 29, 1959 [March 13, 1958], No. 3239/59. Class 19. Rotary brush elements consist of an annular hub having a peripheral channel in which outwardly extending bristle material is secured. The periphery of the hub is sinusoidally deformed so the bristle material lies in a series, preferably three, of circumferentially extending, sinusoidal waves. The bristles having outer ends displaced when the hub is deformed are inclined to the central radial plane of the element. These elements are then assembled on a shaft, preferably having resilient discs of a material such as a polychloroprene positioned therebetween. The assembled brush may be subjected to suitable treatment to cause these discs to flow so that the bristle material becomes embedded in the material of such discs. The material of the discs is such that it wears back at a quicker rate than the bristle material.
