821,809. Abrasive wheel ; brushes. BEYER-OLSEN, A. March 6,1958 [March 12, 1957], No. 7234/58. Classes 19 and 60. A polishing, grinding or glazing wheel comprises a plurality of discs 4, Fig. 2, adapted to be secured to a rotatable shaft 2, each disc having secured to its edge substantially radially extending bights 5 of a band of wire wool or other polishing or grinding material extending continuously along its entire circumference. The discs, which may be of pasteboard, plastic or like material, may be used singly and secured to the shaft by pressing discs disposed one on each of its sides, or a plurality of discs may be used to form a wheel or drum, the discs being separated by spacing discs 6 and the assembly secured to the shaft by means of end plates 3, 3<SP>1</SP> and nuts. The bights of the band may be secured to the edges of the disc by passing alternate bights in opposite directions through holes around its periphery, by stapling, glueing or by being hooked on parts 16, Fig. 6, pressed out of the discs 4<SP>11</SP>. The bights may be retained in position by a covering disc 15 or discs on one or both sides of the disc 4<SP>11</SP>, the covering discs being secured to the disc 4<SP>11</SP>, for example by glueing, and the parts 16 then being pressed in so that the assembly has a small axial dimension ; the covering discs keep the band in position after the outer bight has worn away, the radially extending material then protruding as a brush 10<SP>1</SP>. Discs of different diameter may be assembled together to form a drum with a curved profile.
