Abstract

877,195. Knitting-machines. SCOTT & WILLIAMS Inc. Aug. 28, 1959 [Sept. 19, 1958], No. 29480/59. Class 74 (2). Ingoing and outgoing yarns are carried, by the first or last needle to take them, round the periphery of the welt dial cap 24, until they snap into a notch 76 therein and are cut close to the needles by co-operation of an edge 78 of the notch with one of the fins 28 which guide the loop transfer elements at the periphery of the dial. As the yarn is carried round the cap, it passes under the upturned free end 72 of a guiding wire 70. At the instant of cutting, an outgoing yarn extends along path VI, under a light spring clamp 47 (the action of which is at that time reinforced by a strong spring 58 acting through a lever 54) and round an upstanding pin 80. As the end of an ingoing yarn is carried round the dial from position I by the first needle to take it and passes through positions II and III, a lever 60 lifts lever 54, so that the yarn end is now held only lightly by the clamp 47; and suction is induced in a tube 36 by blowing air through a tube 34 into which it runs. As the yarn end leaves the clamp 47, it is sucked up into the tube 36, carried under the tension thereby produced, into the notch 76 to be cut; and the sucked up waste end is blown into a basket 42.
