Abstract

876,518. Thermionic-cathode tubes. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. March 10, 1958, No. 7547/58. Class 39(1). A cathode 1 is fixed at one end to an insulating plate 4 and at the other end passes through an aperture in a further insulating plate 7, a metallic guide 8 being disposed about this aperture to limit enlargement thereof due to wear consequent upon movement of the cathode therein. As shown, the guide 8 merely comprises an apertured plate 8 secured to mica disc 7 but it may further include a metallic tube secured within the aperture of plate 8. A metallic shield may be secured to the plate 8 and be connected to the cathode by tag 9. The mica disc 4 is clamped between a rib 3 on the oval cathode 1 and a metallic tube 5 of circular cross-section which is welded to the cathode. The tube 5 may be replaced by a metal plate welded along a line to a cathode of circular section, Fig. 6 (not shown).
