Abstract

Glycerophosphate is added to zinc phosphate solutions used for applying phosphate coatings to ferriferous surfaces. The glycerophosphate may be added direct to the working solutions or may be incorporated in concentrates used for make-up or replenishment purposes. Its concentration in the solution expressed as sodium glycerophosphate, is preferably 0.1-0.5% by weight. The solution may also contain calcium and an accelerator such as nitrite, nitrite/nitrate or chlorate.
