Abstract
Aqueous cooling compositions contain one or more glycols or glycerol, an alkali metal molybdate or tungstate, an alkali metal nitrite, and an alkali metal borate or phosphate. The glycols or glycerol may be present in an amount of 20% by volume of the total volume of the composition, and the composition may contain 2.5% of the molybdate or tungstate, 0.5% of the nitrite and 0.5% of the borate or phosphate, all by weight of the glycols or glycerol. A mixture of the molybdate or tungstate, with the nitrite and borate or phosphate may be added to an aqueous solution of glycol or glycerol. In examples, compositions contain ethylene glycol, sodium molybdate, sodium tungstate, sodium nitrite and sodium borate.
