Abstract

876,166. Finishing-fabrics. RUEGGER & CO. April 16, 1959 [April 18, 1958], No. 12991/59. Class 42 (1). Knitted or woven cotton fabric is treated to render it shrinkproof by stretching it by 5- 30% longitudinally while maintaining its width constant, and subjecting it, while so stretched, for a period of 30 seconds to 1 hour, to the action of a liquid or vapour at a temperature between 85‹ and 160‹ C. Preferably the treating agent is water or steam. After detensioning and drying, the treated fabric has a length approximately equal to the initial length, and on a washing or boiling test shows a shrinkage not greater than 3%.
