Abstract
873,398. Gasifying solid and liquid fuels. TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Oct. 30, 1959 [Nov. 19, 1958], No. 36884/59. Classes 55 (1) and 55 (2). In a process wherein a solid or liquid fuel containing ash is gasified in a gaseous stream comprising free oxygen and steam, accumulations of ash in the gasification zone are removed by interrupting the supply of ash-containing fuel and supplying a flux to the gasification zone, the temperature of the gasification zone being maintained at between 2200 and 3000 ‹ F. and above the fusion temperature of the ash so that the ash forms a molten slag which is run off through a slag outlet. The flux may be lime, magnesium carbamate or fluorspar and is preferably introduced in a gaseous hydrocarbon, e.g. natural gas, supplied to the gasification zone for combustion therein to maintain the desired temperature for the removal of the ash accumulation.
