Abstract
421,356. Gas-producers. JOHNSON, J. Y., 47, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.- (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.; Frankforton-Main, Germany) Sept. 11, 1933, No. 25125. [Class 55 (i)] Fine grained solid fuel is gasefied by blowing through an incandescent layer of the fuel a gasefying-agent such as oxygen, air, carbon dioxide, steam, or mixtures of these gases, together with a combustible gas such as water gas, or producer gas, at such a speed that a movement similar to boiling is established in the fuel, in a manner similar to that described in Specification 214,544, [Class 55 (i)]. The fuel is fed from a hopper 9 on to a fuel bed 8 into which lead nozzles 7 for the oxygen supply. Steam is blown in below the grate 3, and the water gas obtained passes by an outlet 12 through a dust separator 13 from which the separated dust returns to the fuel bed. The water gas passes through a washer 16, and fan 20, to a receiver 22, a branch pipe 25 leading a supply of water gas to a steam injector 27 which forces it into the fuel bed from below. Oxygen may also be supplied above the layer of fuel. Slag and ashes are withdrawn through outlet 5. An addition of steam is unnecessary if the fuel has a sufficiently high content of water or hydrogen. Waste gases from the destructive hydrogenation of coal, tars, or mineral oils, or from the synthesis of ammonia, may be used as the combustible gases.
