872,375. Knitting. SCHUBERT & SALZER MASCHINENFABRIK AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT INGOLSTADT. July 1, 1959 [Nov. 13, 1958], No. 22547/59. Drawings to Specification. Class 74 (2). A stocking having a reinforced heel and toe and if desired a reinforced sole is knitted by continuous rotary knitting on a stationary or rotary needle cylinder machine. The reinforcing yarn is incorporated in a continuous length without subsequent cutting by providing the machine with two superposed cam systems one of which rotates in the opposite direction to the other in the case of a stationary needle cylinder machine or rotates twice as fast as the needle cylinder in the case of a rotating needle cylinder machine. This arrangement enables the ground yarn to be continuously knitted during the continuous rotation of the cylinder or of the ground yarn feeder and cam system and during part of each revolution have incorporated with it the reinforcing yarn. During the next part of each revolution the other cam system and reinforcing yarn guide effect operation of the selected needles in the reverse order whereby the reinforcing yarn is knitted back alone within the reinforced area of the stocking.
