1421094 Knitting machines; knitted fabrics ELITEX-ZAVODY TEXTILNIHO STROJIRENSTVI GENERALNI REDITELSTVI 10 May 1974 [5 June 1973] 20670/74 Headings D1C and D1K A circular, e.g. hosiery, knitting machine includes a stitch length control device which comprises a control lever 1 having a plurality of feelers e.g. 4 to 4 5 mounted thereon to engage corresponding segments 5 to 5 5 of a control drum 6 the lever 1 bearing on the feelers through a set of adjustment screws 16 1 to 16 5 to control e.g. by a lifting lever 21 the height of the needle cylinder 25, sinker ring or stitch cams and thereby provide different stitch lengths in different parts of the article being knitted, and a second lever 11 is mounted on the lever so that moving a further lever 13 in the direction of arrow S 1 brings an alternative set of adjustment screws 17 1 to 17 5 on the lever 11 into engagement with the feelers in place of the screws 16 1 to 16 5 and thereby produces an alternative set of stitch lengths in the respective parts of the knitted article without having to reset the adjustment screws. In a stocking, different stitch lengths may be used for the welt, two parts of the leg, the foot and the toe. Three or more sets of adjustment screws may also be provided of which only one set is operative at any one time.
