Abstract
848,218. Knitting. WOLSEY Ltd. July 8, 1958 [April 8, 1957], No. 11329/57. Drawings to Specification. Class 74 (2). A circularly knitted sock formed on a rib machine has a two-ply sole formed by knitting one yarn on the plain sole needles only and another yarn on the rib sole needles only, an absorbent yarn being knitted in plating relationship with one of the yarns in one ply of the sole. The sole is knitted from nylon or other relatively non-absorbent yarn and the absorbent yarn which may be wool is knitted with that yarn which forms the outer ply of the sole but in such plating relationship as to appear on the inner face. The two non-absorbent yarns are knitted by both the rib and plain needles in the instep where the absorbent yarn is omitted so that it floats across the fabric as it is produced and is subsequently cut out. Alternatively, the absorbent yarn is trapped and cut during the knitting operation. The high heel portion may be knitted in a similar manner. Specification 760,109 is referred to.
