Abstract

871,388. Twist-tubes &c. SCRAGG & SONS Ltd., ERNEST. April 19, 1960 [April 17, 1959], No. 13100/59. Class 120(2) In apparatus for false-twisting a running yarn e.g. to impart crimp, a cylindrical member or pin with the yarn wound therearound for one or more turns is supported between belts or disc rollers which hold the yarn against the member whilst rotating both yarn and member: the turns of yarn and the rotation of the member are effected about an axis coincident with or parallel to the direction of rectilinear travel of the yarn. The twister shown in Fig. 1 comprises five belts, the runs 11, 12, 13, 14 forming two "Vs" with the run 15 enclosing at the base thereof a triangular space occupied by a pin 16 around or in a spiral groove of which passes yarn 17. The pin is constrained against upward movement due to the yarn travel by engagement of a disc or washer 18 with a smooth fixed surface or the belt 13. As shown in Fig. 3, the pin 16 is supported and rotated in cusps formed by overlapping surfaces of pairs of rollers 31 and 36, 32 and 35, 33 and 34. Specification 464,981 is referred to.
