894,873. Twist tubes etc.; finishing yarns. ONDERZOEKINGSINSTITUUT RESEARCH. Nov. 30, 1960 [Dec. 1, 1959], No. 41200/60. Classes 120(2) and 120(3) In a false-twisting device comprising a travelling, endless, flexible, e.g. rubber, band which frictionally engages a running yarn at at least one position and thereby imparts rotation or twist thereto, the band also effects a rotational movement about its direction of travel in order to reduce frictional resistance to the slipping of the yarn around the band and thus reduce yarn tension. Thus the band may be wrapped around a wheel and over small rollers placed crossways in the periphery of the wheel and caused to rotate about their own axes by simultaneous rotation of the wheel about its axis: alternatively, the driving means comprises a pair of hyperboloid rollers the axes of which cross each other at an angle twice the magnitude of the angle at which the generatrices of the rollers and their axes cross. In the crimping process shown, yarn 3, in its travel between twist-stops formed by rollers 10, 11 and 13, 14, passes through an inclined heating tube 16, an air (cooling) zone wherein it is set in twisted form, and is guided by notches 19 in a plate 18 over a band 17 which is rotated and guided by hyperboloid rollers 22, 23, and free rollers 20, 21.
