870,615. Doubling yarns. PIRELLI S. p. A. June 2, 1958 [June 6, 1957], No. 17548/58. Class 120(2) A balloon-driven twisting-head for doubling yarns comprises a tubular pivot 5 through which the doubled yarns are drawn supporting a member having an offset portion 1 rotatably carrying a shaft 11 to which is secured a pair of grooved pulleys: the axes 5, 11 are at right angles and a plane containing the first and parallel to the second is tangential to the deepest part of the grooves of the pulleys. The head is of U-shape with branches 2, 3 bridged by the section 1: the pivot extends from one member 2 and the other member 3 is the longer and serves to space the yarns and rotate the head as it is borne against by the ballooning thread. The pulleys are of polyamide and the grooves are of asymmetric section with the deepest part nearest the inner edge of the pulley. The pivot 5 to a steel tube rotatably carried in bearings in a fixed part 8. In operation yarn from a package 14 passes through a brake 16 to a rotating spindle 17 and balloons about a package 18 from which the second yarn passes to a brake 20, both yarns being looped twice or more around their respective pulleys.
