Abstract
870,323. Repeater housings. PIRELLI S.p.A. July 23, 1959 [Sept. 2, 1958], No. 25293/59. Class 38 (1). A submarine cable having a coaxial core surrounded by high tensile armouring wires 4 laid parallel to each other and to the cable axis and embedded in plastic insulation 5, has flexible repeaters 2 inserted at intervals beneath the armouring which is continuous over them. In Fig. 1, the repeater is larger in diameter than the cable core, thus necessitating spreading of the armouring wires and the use of check rings 7. After insertion of the repeater it is embedded in insulation 6 joined integrally to the insulation 5. Fig. 2 shows a repeater 2 which is no larger than the cable core 1 and in this case the insulation and armouring wires are provided on the repeater simultaneously with their provision on the cable core.
