Abstract
870,743. Repeater housings. PIRELLI S.p.A. July 23, 1959 [Sept. 3, 1958], No. 25294/59. Class 38 (1). A repeater for a submarine cable comprises a number of cells 1, each containing components of the repeater and which are embedded, together with conductors 2, 4 connecting them together and to the cable ends, in a mass of flexible, insulating plastic material, such as polyethylene, P.T.F.E. &c. Each cell may comprise a metal casing in which the components are supported by metal discs and which is filled with thermosetting material, Fig. 2 (not shown). Alternatively the components may be embedded in a mass of thermoplastic or thermosetting material which is provided with a metallic covering, Fig. 3 (not shown). The repeater may be enclosed by the sheath and armouring of the cable.
