Abstract

A submarine cable is provided with an armouring which avoids torsional stresses when the cable is subjected to tension. The armouring consists of a polythene or other plastic sheath 1 having embedded in it steel strands 2 each of which comprises wires twisted together, the strands being parallel to the axis of the cable and in contact with one another or spaced apart as shown in Fig. 2. Specifications 703,782 and 740,647 are referred to.
