867,954. Transistor amplifier circuits. REGULATOR A.G. July 6, 1959 [July 8, 1958], No. 23138/59. Class 40(6) An emitter follower transistor amplifier has in its emitter circuit a thermistor operated at the peak of its current voltage characteristic or on the downwardly sloping region of the characteristic so as to stabilize the emitter collector voltage. Fig. 4 shows an emitter follower stage directly coupled to a common emitter stage. A thermistor connected in the emitter circuit of the first transistor is operated on the part of the characteristic where the voltage developed across it is approximately independent of the current passing through it or where the voltage decreases slightly with increasing current. Thus, changes in current through the transistor due to changes in the transistor characteristic or replacement of the transistor do not vary the voltage across the thermistor and accordingly do not vary the proportion of the input voltage developed across the transistor. Changes in ambient temperature of the circuit also cause changes in the current through the thermistor so as to maintain the collector emitter voltage more constant.
