Abstract

817,417. Transistor amplifiers. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. May 8, 1957 , No. 14597/57. Class 40 (6). In a transistor amplifier provided with automatic gain control, means comprising a pointcontact diode 10 connected in parallel with the input circuit of the transistor 1 are provided for rendering the input impedance of the amplifier substantially independent of variations of gain. Gain-control is effected by the application of a control current derived from the rectified output of the transistor 1 to its base electrode. Both the diode 10 and the diode provided by the emitter and base of the transistor 1 are connected to conduct in the same direction; thus as the input impedance of the transistor rises due to an increase in the control current supplied to its base, its emitter potential rises so that the impedance of diode 10 falls, thus tending to maintain the input impedance as seen across the terminals 12, 13 constant.
