867,715. Linkwork for conveying circular motion; machinery breaking pieces. BETEILIGUNGSUND PATENT VERWALTUNGSGESELLSCHAFT. April 17, 1959 [April 19, 1958], No. 13213/59. Classes 80 (3) and 80 (4). A torque transmitting coupling, shown as connecting a V-pulley 1 to a shaft 3, comprises bolts 14 pivoting in the pulley and carrying slidably within sleeve-like extensions 13 tie-rods 12 biased to central positions within the sleevelike extensions by stacks of springs 16 and secured by means 6 &c. which disengage on overload, to the radially projecting arms 5 of a hub secured to the shaft. In the form shown, the tie-rods 12 are connected by shear pins 6 passing through the forked arms of securing members 8 to the radial arms 5 on the shaft hub, breaking of the shear pins on overload allowing tension springs 22 to pivot the bolts 14 and withdraw the tie-rods 12 out of alignment with the radial hub arms, so that the V-pulley 1 can then rotate freely upon the shaft. Alternatively, each shear pin 6 may be replaced by a coupling which disengages on overload and comprises a pair of arms pivoted on the end of the tie rod a spring biased so that rollers at their ends grip a pin on the hub. The sliding surfaces of the sleeves 13 and the tie-bolts 12, together with the pivot mountings of the bolts 14, may be lubricated through nipples 19.
