Abstract

792,330. Shaft couplings. CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO. Nov. 23, 1955, No. 33551/55. Class 80 (2). A gear ring 12 is mounted free for rotation on a hub member 11 keyed to, a shaft 15, the circular end 37 of an arcuate spring 32 being anchored on a pin 39 to the hub 11, and the other circular end of the spring 36 being engaged in a semi-circular seat 38 in the gear ring 12 to provide a shock-absorbing drive means. A cover-plate 23 having lubricant admitting holes 51, is keyed to the shaft 15 and retained with a nut 28. In a modification, the hub member has an abutment extending radially outwards and the gear ring an abutment extending radially inwards, these abutments being engaged by the ends of substantially circular springs having thickened portions intermediate their ends. Lubricating passages are provided in the shaft and the hub member.
